Trump Claims Iran Seeks Deal, Says "War Has Been Won"

WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. President Donald Trump asserted Tuesday that Iran is actively seeking a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict and has even provided the U.S. with a “very big present,” though details remain scarce. Speaking to reporters, Trump claimed negotiations are “happening right now” and boldly stated, “the war has been won.”

The president’s comments come as the conflict enters its fourth week, following the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the subsequent appointment of his son, Mojtaba Khamenei – a development Trump characterized as “regime change.”

“We have really regime change… because the leaders are all very different than the ones that we started off with that created all those problems,” Trump said.

While Trump declined to elaborate on the nature of the “present” from Iran, he indicated it was “oil and gas-related,” potentially linked to the ongoing situation in the Strait of Hormuz. He further stated Iran “wants to make a deal so badly, you have no idea how badly they want to make a deal.”

Trump reiterated his firm stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, stating definitively, “They’re not going to have a nuclear weapon, that’s number one, two and three. Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. They’ve agreed to that.” However, Iran has publicly denied Trump’s claims of ongoing negotiations and an agreement regarding its nuclear program.

The U.S. military presence in the region is reportedly increasing, with potential deployment of 3,000 additional soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division. According to sources, “prudent planning” is underway, though no final decision has been made. Trump described the U.S. operation as a “tremendous success,” claiming the U.S. has effectively neutralized Iran’s military capabilities.

“You read the New York Times, it’s like we’re not winning a war where they [Iran] have no navy and they have no air force, and they have no nothing,” Trump stated. “And we literally have planes flying over Tehran and other parts of their country. They can’t do a thing about it.”

These developments follow reports of ongoing negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, which began in April 2025, aimed at reaching a nuclear peace agreement. Trump also indicated on Monday that major points of agreement had been reached in previous talks.

The situation remains fluid, and further details are expected as negotiations progress.
