For its fourth edition at the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie in Paris, the festival Cité des sens focuses on sight this year. The organizers have planned around thirty activities. Europe 1 spoke with Marie Becher, project manager for the festival, to learn more about this new edition.

Are you knowledgeable about sight? The Cité des sens festival continues this Sunday, for its fourth edition at the Cité des sciences et de l’industrie in Paris. After focusing on smell in 2020 and 2021, and hearing in 2022, this year the spotlight is on sight, with activities such as the anatomy of the eye, light games, augmented reality, photography, and much more. Europe 1 was there.

From mind-bending optical illusions to a giant kaleidoscope full of colors… The Cité des sciences intends to dazzle with around thirty planned activities.

The four main axes of the exhibition

“We have worked on four main axes,” explains Marie Becher, project manager for the festival, who reveals some of these activities to Europe 1. “The first axis is to explain how it works, what sight is, the pathologies… We have a second axis on light because if there is no light, we can’t see, so it’s important to talk about what is visible and colors.”

There is a third axis “on what we can call amplified vision,” she continues, “which means how we can improve our field of vision, see better simply with prescription glasses or push the limits by looking at the infinitely small with measuring instruments. And we have a last axis around images, photography,” adds Marie Becher.

Both young and old will be able to create their own 3D glasses or learn to write in braille. This weekend, there will also be vision tests for the whole family. Plenty to see more clearly!
