But recently, it is a drastically different indie game that has become viral following a completely free launch on Steam.
Content Warning is a hit on Steam, a big success
This is Content Warning, a cooperative game mixing fun and horror a bit like Lethal Company, another sensation from a few months ago. The goal here is to play as extreme video creators and explore different environments in search of creepy and eerie events, and then immortalize them to share them online with the sole purpose of going viral. In your hands, all the tools of an extreme video creator with the necessary selfie stick, portable camera, and other devices to ensure you create the most beautiful horror stories on the internet.
With such a fun pitch, simple and addictive gameplay, and a formula that is quite enjoyable with friends, the game found an audience almost immediately, catapulted by a full weekend of free play on Steam and of course, a horde of streamers who jumped at the opportunity. As a result, over 6.2 million players tried the adventure on Steam and Content Warning is now viral. Its developer is rather proud of this and clearly did not expect such success, so the start was a bit chaotic.
A first major update with free content
Nevertheless, Content Warning does not intend to stop there, and free content is on its way in an upcoming update that will also address some minor issues along the way.
The patch adds several items including a reporter’s microphone, an audio player, or a confetti cannon to shine in society. Some balancing adjustments are also part of it, particularly regarding the prices of emotes or the addition of mouse options.
All of this is already available for free through a simple update, and according to the developers, more updates will follow very soon! Expected are fixes aiming to improve in-game voice recognition, the end of connection problems that can end the game or simply kick the host, as well as significant improvements in camera rendering. There is still a lot of work to be done as there are still many bugs (sometimes entertaining), but they are coming soon.
