U.S. Warns Civilians Near Iranian Ports in Strait of Hormuz Amid Rising Tensions

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a warning Wednesday to Iranian civilians to avoid port facilities along the Strait of Hormuz, stating that these locations are being used by Iranian naval forces for military operations. The alert raises concerns about the escalating conflict in the region and its potential impact on vital international shipping lanes.

CENTCOM stated that civilian ports utilized for military purposes forfeit their protected status and could become legitimate military targets. The command urged civilians to “immediately avoid all port facilities where Iranian naval forces are operating.”

The warning comes as the war in Iran continues to disrupt global oil supplies, leading to increased gasoline prices and prompting nations to consider releasing oil reserves, according to reports. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical choke point for global oil transport, has been effectively closed due to the conflict.

Recent U.S. military action in the area, including the destruction of Iranian mine-laying ships near the Strait, underscores the heightened tensions. The U.S. has described its actions as an effort to ensure freedom of navigation and protect commercial vessels.

The situation presents a significant challenge to reopening the vital waterway, with governments working to find solutions to unblock the Strait of Hormuz and stabilize the global energy market.
