Trump Claims Iran Seeks Deal Amidst Tensions, Tehran Disputes Account

Palm Beach, Florida – U.S. President Donald Trump stated Monday that Iran has expressed a desire to negotiate a deal, a claim swiftly denied by Iranian officials. Speaking to reporters in Palm Beach following a social media post regarding paused strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, Trump asserted that Iranian representatives initiated contact with the U.S.

“They called, I didn’t call,” Trump said, adding that Iran “want[s] to make a deal, and we are very willing to make a deal.” He claimed the U.S. possessed the capability to inflict significant damage on Iran, specifically mentioning the potential to destroy its largest electric generating plants “in one shot.”

The President outlined conditions for any potential agreement, stating it must be “a good deal” that ensures “no more wars” and prevents Iran from developing nuclear weapons. “They’re agreeing to that,” Trump asserted, implying progress on the nuclear issue.

However, Tehran has refuted Trump’s account. Iranian officials labeled reports of U.S. talks as “fake news,” according to reports from the BBC.

This exchange occurs against a backdrop of heightened tensions between the two nations, particularly following the United States’ withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, in recent years. The JCPOA aimed to limit Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

Trump’s comments signal a potential, albeit contested, opening for dialogue. The situation remains fluid, and the veracity of the reported Iranian overture remains a key point of contention.
