Peter Hook – “Hooky” for everyone – is a living model of bass playing: always imitated, never equaled. A story written as early as 1979 with Joy Division, then continued with New Order. He has not been part of the Manchester band for several years, but after a long legal battle, he is authorized to play all his old songs on stage and under his own name. Unprecedented chance for Switzerland: he comes this Wednesday to Lausanne to play both Joy Division and New Order compilations called Substance. A high-energy show of almost three hours with eternal songs that have captivated generations of listeners. The Briton has told a lot about his life in three superb and monumental books.
If you had to read only one, go for the aptly named Substance. New Order Seen from the Inside (Ed. Le Mot et le Reste, 2017 for the French translation) and its 750 hilariously autobiographical pages. But he still has things to reveal, spontaneously. Zoom conversation with an eternal young man.
