Les Kings de Los Angeles blanchissent les Islanders de New York 3-0

LOS ANGELES – Adrian Kempe scored his 20th goal of the season, David Rittich stopped 26 shots, and the Los Angeles Kings ended the New York Islanders’ winning streak with a 3-0 shutout victory on Monday night.

New York (29-21-14) was finishing a trip on the west coast and was hoping to extend their winning streak to seven games.

However, Patrick Roy’s team faced a team that had regained its defensive prowess from earlier in the season. The Kings had dominated the Anaheim Ducks 6-1 on Sunday.

The Islanders are tied with the Detroit Red Wings, both with 72 points in 64 games, for the final playoff spot in the East.

Kempe scored at 7:14 of the first period, in his second game back from an injury suffered on February 26 against the Edmonton Oilers.

The Islanders’ fatigue, combined with the defensive effort of the Kings (33-20-11), led to a limited number of scoring chances.

It was the 15th time this season that the Kings had completed the first two periods without allowing their opponents to score.

In the Bettman league, only the Boston Bruins have done better in this regard this season.

With 13:53 remaining in the third period, Phillip Danault benefited from Trevor Moore’s hard work to redirect a puck over Ilya Sorokin’s pad.

The Quebec native has 15 goals this season, five of which have come in his last seven games.

Los Angeles resisted five power play opportunities for the visitors, two of which were the result of penalties imposed on Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Moore completed the scoring by depositing the puck into an empty net with 2:22 left on the clock. The American leads the Kings in goals with 25.

The Isles will return to New York state for their next game on Thursday, but they have one more road game – in Buffalo – before facing their fans again on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against the Ottawa Senators.

As for the Kings, they will play their next three games on the road, in St. Louis, Chicago, and Dallas.
