Le «plus ancien carrousel en fonctionnement au monde» ne sera pas en service cet été à La Ronde

Le Galopant – known as the “oldest carousel still in operation in the world” – will not be in service for La Ronde’s summer season.

However, the ride built in 1885 will not be sidelined or dismantled, according to Carole Bricault, marketing director of the Montreal amusement park.

“Maintaining it requires a lot of work from specialized artisans, as everything was done by hand for this magnificent carousel,” she explained in an email.

The La Ronde team has not yet made any decisions regarding the future of this ride, which has been in the park since Expo 67.

“All possibilities are being considered; undertaking the manufacture of replacement parts or even donating it to a museum,” Mrs. Bricault emphasized.

Therefore, this is another iconic ride at La Ronde on which visitors will not be able to embark. Also dating back to the 1967 World’s Fair, La Pitoune was permanently closed in 2017, when the mini-rail was dismantled last year.
