Le FC Bâle has established a sports commission, which will be led by the club’s president, David Degen. This new body will be in charge of the sports management of the club, which is currently in crisis.
The position of sports director in the traditional sense – previously held by Heiko Vogel, who also serves as coach – is thus eliminated. In addition to Degen, the new commission includes Andy Rey (member of the board of directors), Marco Streller, Ruedi Zbinden – both former sports directors of FCB -, Martin Andermatt, Daniel Stucki, and Valentin Stocker.
‘The commission is composed of individuals who are not involved in the daily work with the first team’, the club stated. It hopes to ensure continuity and independence, while distributing decision-making among several people.
After a disastrous start to the season, FCB sacked its coach Timo Schultz on September 29. Heiko Vogel took his place on the bench, but the Basel team is still languishing in last place in the Super League.
