Israel Confirms Killing of Two Iranian Intelligence Officials in Tehran
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The Israeli military announced Saturday it killed two senior intelligence officials in a strike in Tehran, escalating tensions between the two nations. Abdollah Jalali-Nasab and Amir Shariat were identified as key figures within the intelligence directorate of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya, the central operations command of the Iranian military.
The strike, which occurred Friday, comes just weeks after the assassination of Saleh Asadi, the previous head of the same intelligence department, on February 28th. Jalali-Nasab and Shariat had been appointed to replace Asadi following his death, according to the Israeli military.
The Israeli military stated both Jalali-Nasab and Shariat were close to the leadership of the Iranian government and played a critical role in analyzing intelligence used to direct actions against Israel. They described the Khatam al-Anbiya intelligence branch as central to the planning and execution of Iran’s security strategy.
“The intelligence is presented to senior officials in Iran’s security system during frequent situational assessments, on the basis of which the war against the State of Israel is conducted,” the military said in a statement.
The announcement follows a previous wave of strikes launched alongside the United States on February 28th, in which Israel claims several top Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, were killed. Details surrounding those claims remain unconfirmed.
This latest action raises concerns about further escalation in the region. The ongoing conflict has prompted international calls for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions. The situation remains fluid and is being closely monitored by international observers.
