Motorola has announced the launch of the Edge 40 Pro, the successor to the Edge 30 Pro. The new device comes with an updated and reinforced technical platform, new features for photo and video, a modern design, and a higher price tag than the previous model. However, Motorola promises the same experience as the Edge 30 Ultra. The company’s strategy today focuses on two important axes: developing a range of products with very aggressive price-quality ratios and rejuvenating its brand, which still suffers from the outdated image of “dad’s phone.” The Edge 40 Pro represents an advancement in Motorola’s high-end smartphone range, with a powerful technical platform, a beautiful screen, fast charging, and coherent photography features, all served by a high-quality design. The device’s design is heavily influenced by that of the Edge 30 Ultra, with a mineral glass back (Corning Gorilla Glass Victus) and a satin finish that is pleasant to the touch, as well as an IP68 certification against water and dust. The phone’s front features a POLED LG Display screen, which is curved on all four sides and has the same dimensions, definition, brightness, ratio, and HDR10+ compatibility as the Edge 30 Ultra, but with a slightly higher refresh rate of 165Hz. The device is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the most powerful chip on the market, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The battery has a capacity of 4600mAh, which is slightly less than the Edge 30 Pro, but compatible with wired fast charging and wireless charging. The device’s camera features are also impressive, with three sensors, including a 50-megapixel main lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens with a 114-degree view, and a telephoto lens with a 2x optical zoom. The device also includes an eSIM and Dolby Atmos symmetric speakers. However, one drawback is that it will ship with Android 13, and users will receive only two major software updates and three years of security patches. The Edge 40 Pro will cost €899, which is €100 more than the Edge 30 Pro, but some improvements on this newer model are worth paying for, according to experts. Overall, the Edge 40 Pro promises to provide a smartphone experience that is similar to the Edge 30 Ultra, but with some noticeable advancements, such as the 165Hz refresh rate and Wi-Fi 7.
