800 kilometers
Harold, listening to his heart, almost for the first time, and silencing his reasoning for once, decides unexpectedly to cross all of England, 800 km from south to north, to give hope to a sick friend.
The beauty of the film lies in part in this decision, the power in the simplicity of this first step, this step aside that changes every perspective of life. Harold, superbly interpreted by Jim Broadbent, takes us with him where we don’t expect it, he becomes a strange pilgrim in a nylon tie and dress shoes. The road shapes him step by step, he discovers Providence, and lets himself be guided with the confidence of a child, on this path that will deepen him and unify his soul and body. A screenplay with English humor and tragedy wrapped in phlegm and poetry.
“Walk, you have a meeting, where? With whom? You don’t know yet, maybe with yourself.” (excerpt from the prayer of the walker).
