Les Oilers d’Edmonton remportent une victoire en prolongation, Hughes continue de briller, et l’Avalanche écrase les Ducks

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers showed a lot of character on Wednesday night to erase a two-goal deficit in the third period, en route to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Seattle Kraken.

Evander Kane may have to pay for dinner at his next team outing since he was the main author of this comeback with a hat-trick in a span of 10 minutes.

After reducing the lead to one goal, then tying the game, Kane played the hero halfway through overtime by completing his hat-trick. Kane needed 9 minutes and 29 seconds to score his three goals.

This is a third straight win for the Oilers, who have also not lost in two games under their new head coach Kris Knoblauch.

Stuart Skinner had a good outing in the Oilers’ net with 33 saves on 36 shots. After only getting one win in his first seven starts, Skinner has now won his last three games.

In addition to Kane’s three goals, Connor McDavid scored his fourth goal of the season. Jared McCann, Alexander Wennberg, and Pierre-Édouard Bellemare scored for the Kraken.

Oilers’ defenseman Evan Bouchard collected three assists.

Kailer Yamamoto was back in Edmonton for the first time since leaving the team in June 2023. A first-round pick of the Oilers in 2017, he played 244 games with Edmonton.

McDavid and Leon Draisaitl combined their efforts in the early minutes of the second period. Draisaitl attracted the attention of four Kraken players at the zone entry, allowing him to pass the puck to his left to McDavid, who scored on a breakaway after a beautiful fake.

Seattle, however, answered with three straight goals, including two goals in a little over two minutes. McCann redirected a pass from Jordan Eberle into the net, then Bellemare redirected a shot behind Stuart Skinner to put the Kraken ahead.

Late in the period, Wennberg made a nice move, spinning in front of the net and beating Skinner to give Seattle a two-goal lead with 20 minutes to play.

Kane then rekindled hope for the Oilers with just under seven minutes to play in the third period when he redirected a brilliant pass from Evan Bouchard into the net to reduce the lead to 3-2. Bouchard collected his second point of the match on this sequence.

With less than a minute to play in the game, the Oilers refused to give up and managed to send the game into overtime. Positioned at the mouth of the net, Kane completed a beautiful pass from Draisaitl to score his second goal of the match and tie the game 3-3.

In overtime, Kane was left unmarked at the mouth of the net and completed a beautiful cross-ice pass from Zach Hyman.

Joey Daccord turned aside 28 of the 32 shots he faced in the game.

The Oilers will be back in action on Saturday afternoon against the Tampa Bay Lightning, while the Kraken will be back in action on Thursday against the Islanders.

Hughes doesn’t slow down

Quinn Hughes did it again.

The star defenseman scored a goal and two assists in a 4-3 overtime victory for the Vancouver Canucks over the New York Islanders.

Already with two assists in the game, Hughes went unnoticed behind the Islanders players in overtime and scored with an excellent wrist shot to play the hero.

The 24-year-old defenseman now has 6 goals and 26 points this season.

Filip Hronek scored the equalizing goal for the Canucks, extending his streak of games with at least one point to 11.

J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser also scored for the Canucks, while the Islanders’ goals came from Pierre Engvall, Brock Nelson, and Bo Horvat.

The Canucks’ power play gave the Islanders headaches with three goals.

The Islanders have been struggling lately with six consecutive losses. It’s the opposite for the Canucks, who have won seven of their last eight games.

The game started well for the Islanders, who took a 2-0 lead after the first period of play. Engvall opened the scoring, then Nelson doubled the lead just over a minute later.

Both teams exchanged goals in the second period to bring the score to 3-2. Miller first put the Canucks on the board, before seeing Horvat restore a two-goal lead for the Islanders. Boeser narrowed the gap to one goal in the middle of the period with a snap shot.

Back on the power play in the third period, the Canucks made New York pay the price. Hronek unleashed a powerful slap shot to tie the game and eventually send everyone into overtime.

The third period gave rise to a worrying moment, as Andrei Kuzmenko was hit in the face by a slapshot. After remaining on the ice for a while, he returned to the locker room bleeding.

Canucks’ goalie Thatcher Demko stopped 30 shots, while Ilya Sorokin made 39 saves in the loss.

Avalanche crushes the Ducks

The Colorado Avalanche exploded offensively with five goals in the third period to cruise to a resounding 8-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night.

Already leading 3-1 after 40 minutes of play, the Avalanche pulled away in the third period to secure a second consecutive win and halt the Ducks’ two-game winning streak.

In his second game in an Avalanche uniform, newcomer Joel Kiviranta collected a goal and two assists in the game.

Valeri Nichushkin scored twice, Quebec native Samuel Girard scored his first goal of the season, and the other goals for Colorado were scored by Andrew Cogliano, Devon Toews, Ross Colton, and Fredrik Olofsson.

Cale Makar picked up three assists. It’s the 14th time in his career that he has collected three or more points in a game.

Sam Carrick and Max Jones scored the only two goals for the Ducks in the game.

Avalanche goalie Alexandar Georgiev wasn’t very busy in front of his net and stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced. In the Ducks’ camp, Lukas Dostal allowed eight goals on 38 shots.

The Ducks had won their last five road games.

The Ducks will face the Florida Panthers and the St. Louis Blues in the next few days, before hosting the Montreal Canadiens next Wednesday.

The Avalanche will play their next game on Saturday, against the Dallas Stars.
