Best slalom skier in the world last season and a surprise retiree since October, the Norwegian made his return Thursday evening in Kitzbühel. Not on skis, but behind the turntables.

Lucas Braathen is back in Kitzbühel, but not (yet?) on the slopes! The Norwegian phenomenon, winner of the slalom crystal globe last winter, set the dance floor on fire in a pop-up club in the Austrian resort of Kitzbühel on Thursday evening behind his…turntables. Retired surprisingly in October due to disputes with his federation, the Norwegian DJ performed at BeyondKitz, a pop-up club set up during the Hahnenkamm races.

Dressed in a simple white t-shirt and the cap bearing his sponsor that he shares with the Kitzbühel events, DJ Lucas Braathen Pinheiro appeared very focused and concentrated when he first appeared on stage around 10:30 pm. As his set progressed, the former slalom skier let loose and even treated himself to a few dance steps, smiling at the audience. Especially when launching a remixed version of the famous “Africa” by the artist Toto.

In this underground parking lot turned nightclub, the still sparse crowd had nothing to do with the throngs that came to watch the slaloms along the Kitzbühel slopes. In the Tyrolean resort, the Norwegian had finished third (in 2023) and second (in 2022).

Back on the slopes soon?

Will the 23-year-old Norwegian prodigy embark on a DJing career? Will he return to the slopes with the Brazilian federation (his mother’s country)? Or will he compete in the Freeride World Tour, with which contacts have reportedly been made, according to the skiactu.ch site? The suspense remains! In the meantime, the man who is also a model and influencer is enjoying himself in the nightlife scene.

In Kitzbühel, the Norwegian is living his “best life”, and has been seen on social media with local star Hansi Hinterseer, the silver medalist in the 1974 World Championships giant slalom and now a schlager music star.
