Le festival Ono’u s’installe dans les îles polynésiennes et à Paris

Tahiti, Huahine or the Marquesas Islands: 4 local artists and 5 international artists are touring the islands until October 31st.

Among the Polynesian artists, Tearii Flohr from Huahine and Rival from Tiarei are returning from a new artistic adventure Ono’u in Nuku Hiva, alongside artists Ravage and Richard Barri.

For its 9th edition, the festival is turning towards the land. Hughes and Tamatoa Chaze have created a fresco celebrating the magnificence of trees and plantations in the valleys of Taipivai and Faire attention.

The inaugural fresco of the 2023 festival was created on the Solidarités building by Tea and Rival. This is their largest mural in the heart of the capital.

Until May 31st, the festival will continue in the municipality of Paea, which is hosting the event for the first time on several of its walls. Three locations in the Mara’a-Pofatu district, totaling more than 600 m2, are being transformed by the artists’ paintbrushes and aerosols:

  • The Mara’a primary school until May 17th
  • The OPH Pofatu – PK26.4 residence, side sea, from May 15th to 23rd
  • The neighboring TIHONI residence from May 25th to 31st

Three new international headliners have been invited to the event: the Spaniards Dulk, Pichi Avo and Argentine Marina Zumi.

At the initiative of the municipality, their visit as part of the festival in Paea will allow for a series of educational meetings involving several classes from the Mara’a school and the Paea college on May 17th and 30th.

This year, Ono’u is flying to Paris. An exhibition space of 1000 m2 will be dedicated to the festival at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The project, supported by the Paris Tourism Office and the Olympic Museum, will be open to the public in September. Three Polynesian artists will represent the fenua in this unique cultural showcase at the heart of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Open until December 2024, the space will also host a temporary exhibition in March and April 2024 specifically dedicated to “surf and street art in Tahiti.”
