While the capacity of electricity production from non-fossil sources increased worldwide by 50% last year compared to 2022, the rate of increase is lower in France, worries the president of the renewable energy union.

This is the good news at the beginning of 2024 on the climate front: renewable energies are popular. On a global scale, renewable electricity capacities increased by 50% last year compared to 2022, according to a report published Wednesday by the International Energy Agency (IEA). Thanks in particular to China, and to a lesser extent Europe, the United States, and Brazil, nearly 507 new gigawatts were put into service, with photovoltaic solar leading the way. For the president of the Union of Renewable Energies (SER), Jules Nyssen, this new international dynamic highlights the decline of French ambitions in the field.
