Huawei Northern Africa Digital Power Ecosystem Partner Summit 2023: Éclairer une Afrique verte, combler le fossé énergétique

[Marrakech, December 8, 2023] On December 7th and 8th, 2023, under the theme “Lighting up a green Africa, bridging the energy gap,” Huawei Northern Africa organized the Huawei Northern Africa Digital Power Ecosystem Partner Summit 2023 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Marrakech. This large-scale event brought together nearly 180 strategic partners, industry leaders, experts from government agencies, and associations specializing in renewable energies to discuss current energy challenges, renewable energy trends in Africa, and the innovations proposed by Huawei Digital Power.

Through the Huawei Northern Africa Digital Power Ecosystem Partner Summit 2023, Huawei confirms its commitment to the development of clean energy and the digital transition of the energy sector in Africa. The company is also involved in building a strong partner network based on mutual trust to ensure shared success.

Despite a solar potential of 7,900 GW and an average of eight hours of sunlight per day, Africa faces energy disparities. In 2023, while nearly 100% of the population in North Africa had access to electricity, this proportion was only 56% in West Africa. To address the urgency of the African transition, exacerbated by climate change, electricity shortages, energy instability, and rising fossil fuel prices, Africa plans to increase its renewable energy capacity by over 5 times. Thus, during COP28 in Dubai, more than 20 African countries supported the global call to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030.

During his opening speech, Philippe WANG, President Digital Power & Executive Vice President of Huawei Northern Africa (North, West, and Central Africa)declared: “A new era is opening up in the energy industry: that of digital energy, closely linked to the digital world. This era is no longer guided by resource dependence but by technology. Today, we seize the opportunities by integrating ‘WatT, HeaT, BatTery, and BitT’ (4T technologies) to shape a greener and more promising future for Africa.”

Philippe WANG also emphasized Huawei’s commitment to actively support its partners, working together for the development of the digital energy industry in the Northern Africa region.

The Huawei Northern Africa Digital Power Ecosystem Partner Summit 2023 also showcased the innovations of Huawei Digital Power. Among these innovations, the FusionModule2000 6.0, a new component of the Huawei Smart Modular DC solution, was unveiled. It aims to meet the needs of customers looking for more compact and environmentally friendly modular data centers. Two new integrations with the Huawei Critical Power solution were presented, offering critical power solutions. These are UPS2000-H and Pouvoirs, in indoor and outdoor configurations, with “environmentally friendly, intelligent, user-friendly, and reliable” features.

The event also served to unveil and present in more detail the new FusionSolar products and photovoltaic solutions adapted to various scenarios: from large ground-mounted plants, to commercial and industrial, and residential applications. All of these products and solutions integrate active safety and are designed to optimize the costs of solar electricity production, especially when combined with battery storage (LCOE/LCOS). This optimization aims to make photovoltaic solar the main source of energy in the future.

These solutions thus illustrate the progress of the African continent towards the era of digital energy, closely linked to the digital world.

A single tree does not make a forest. Faced with growing opportunities in the digital energy industry, Huawei is enthusiastic about collaborating with its customers and ecosystem partners to explore new scenarios, constantly innovate, and together, establish strong foundations to shape the digital world with competitive solutions and products. Building a win-win, environmentally friendly and smart future, that is Huawei’s ambition for Africa.
