Handoff : Commencez sur un appareil, terminez sur un autre

Handoff : Commencez sur un appareil, terminez sur un autre

Handoff, or “sans les mains” in French, allows users to start a task on one Apple device and finish it on another. This feature requires at least two devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch) to be able to take advantage of it. I often find myself starting to respond to an email on my iPhone and then realizing that the necessary attachment is stored on my Mac. With Handoff, I can continue my email directly on my Mac without needing to save it as a draft beforehand. The transition happens instantly and avoids many manipulations. It’s important to note that Handoff also works between two devices of the same kind, for example, between two Macs.

Handoff-compatible apps require the use of the same application on your different devices, with one exception that I will mention later. In the example above, Handoff will work by using Apple’s Mail app on the iPhone and the Mail app on the Mac. The majority of Apple apps are compatible with Handoff, including Notes, Safari, Mail, Maps, Reminders, Calendar, Contacts, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, FaceTime, and Clock. FaceTime requires macOS Ventura (or later), iOS 16, or iPadOS 16 (or later). Third-party developers can also integrate Handoff into their apps, like the Ulysses editor, for example.
