Lately, the Californian club, founded in 2014 and considered to have the most valuable squad in the MLS, has been trying to build a network for themselves. They had already taken over Wacker Innsbruck in the European market and started a talent development partnership with Bayern Munich.

Within the Fosun group constellation, Grasshopper was never able to develop. Although the Chinese spent nearly 50 million, they did not achieve significant success or spectacular player sales. The 96.5% stake owned by owner Jenny Wang has been completely sold to Los Angeles FC.
