From our special correspondent in Anaheim, California.

Fans eagerly awaited the return of video game publisher Blizzard with new announcements. After three years of absence, it is relaunching its annual event: BlizzCon. Over the course of two days, thousands of fans will roam the halls of the Convention Center in Anaheim, near Los Angeles. Massed in front of the main stage, the audience hangs on the words of Blizzard representatives. The CEO of the company, Mike Ybarra, sets the tone for this new edition. He announces a mystery guest, who is none other than Phil Spencer, who oversees video games at Microsoft. While it is his first BlizzCon, his presence is symbolic, just a few weeks after the approval of the Activision acquisition by the technology giant.

The conference continues with representatives from the game Overwatch, who unveil a 39th character available to players: Mauga. On one of the publisher’s flagship licenses, Diablo IV, released last June, players will now have access to a new game expansion: Vessel of Hatred. The room now trembles with announcements about Warcraft, one of Blizzard’s oldest franchises. For John Hight, CEO of Warcraft, “today is a great day” for video games. He thus affirms that a new chapter is opening up for the next thirty years.

Three new expansions for World of Warcraft

On World of Warcraft Classic, certain elements will undergo a revival, such as reimagined bosses or new rewards. Release scheduled for November 30th. Chris Metzen, executive creative director of World of Warcraft, now takes the stage with an ecstatic audience. He announces the Worldsoul saga, which will unfold over multiple expansions, “in the coming years.” Instead of the usual single expansion announcement, Chris Metzen announces three: The War Within, Midnight, and The Last Titan.

These announcements were eagerly awaited by fans, especially after the announcement of Blizzard’s acquisition by Microsoft. This $69 billion marriage will enable the video game publisher to enter a new era after challenging years. The company did not receive the enthusiasm of players for its recent games and was notably accused of turning a blind eye to acts of sexual harassment within the group. A new chapter is therefore opening up for Microsoft and Blizzard, promising many new features in the video game industry.
