UAE Grapples with Unstable Weather, Disrupting Daily Life
Dubai, UAE – Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and reduced visibility are impacting daily life across the United Arab Emirates, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Authorities are urging caution as the country experiences a period of unsettled weather, with conditions expected to persist throughout the week.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has confirmed the unstable weather pattern, characterized by cloud build-up and intermittent rainfall affecting multiple regions. While rainfall has been light to moderate in many cities, heavier bursts have been reported in northern and eastern areas, including Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, due to the influence of mountainous terrain.
“Conditions can change quickly,” the NCM warned, advising residents to stay informed of the latest updates.
The disruptions extend beyond rainfall. Winds are gusting up to 40-50 km/h, causing blowing dust and hindering visibility on highways. Rough seas have also been reported in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea. Temperatures have seen a slight dip due to increased cloud cover and precipitation.
Meteorologists attribute the current conditions to a combination of low-pressure systems and upper-atmosphere changes. March is typically a transitional period for the UAE’s weather, making sudden shifts in conditions more common.
Looking ahead, the forecast indicates continued unsettled weather. The NCM predicts partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with scattered rain, heavier showers in the north and east, and lighter, intermittent rainfall in coastal and western areas. Moderate to fresh winds, shifting from southeasterly to northwesterly, are also expected, potentially causing dust.
Authorities are advising residents to prioritize safety. Dubai Police can be reached at 999, Dubai Ambulance at 998, and Dubai Civil Defense at 997 for emergencies. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) can be contacted at 800 9090 for road-related concerns.
While disruptive, the current weather pattern is not uncommon for this time of year. However, the intensity and widespread nature of this week’s system have been particularly noticeable, impacting commutes and outdoor activities. The UAE, known for its arid climate, occasionally experiences such rainfall, offering a temporary respite from the usual dry conditions.
