Malaysian Police Hunt Man Accused of Brutal Attack on Pregnant Wife

MELAKA, Malaysia – Malaysian police are searching for a 22-year-old man following a widely circulated video appearing to show him violently assaulting his pregnant wife outside a karaoke centre in Kota Shahbandar, Melaka. The incident, which occurred early Sunday morning, has sparked outrage across the country.

The victim’s mother filed a police report on Monday at 1:17 a.m., prompting an investigation led by Melaka police chief Deputy Commissioner Dzulkhairi Mukhtar.

According to preliminary findings, the 20-year-old victim was attacked in front of a family karaoke centre around 4 a.m. CCTV footage reviewed by investigators allegedly shows the suspect punching, slapping, and pulling the victim’s hair. The investigation further suggests the suspect then deliberately ran a motorcycle over the victim’s head.

“Checks on closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings revealed that the suspect acted aggressively… before ramming her head with a motorcycle,” Deputy Commissioner Mukhtar stated on Tuesday.

The victim sustained soft-tissue injuries to her head and right cheek and was transported by ambulance to Hospital Melaka for treatment at 4:41 a.m. She was later discharged and returned home with her mother to Tanjung Minyak Perdana.

Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name, and the investigation is ongoing. This case underscores the critical issue of domestic violence in Malaysia and the urgent need for increased protection and support for victims. While specific national statistics regarding violence against pregnant women are not readily available, the incident has reignited calls for stronger enforcement of existing laws and greater awareness campaigns.
