Iranian Drone Strike in Kuwait Injures Dozens of U.S. Troops, Death Toll Climbs to Six

Kuwait City – A recent Iranian drone strike on a tactical operations center at the Shuaiba port in Kuwait has resulted in a far greater number of casualties among U.S. service members than initially reported, with dozens suffering traumatic brain injuries, shrapnel wounds, and burns. The attack, which occurred on March 1st, claimed the lives of six American soldiers, marking the first U.S. combat deaths in the escalating conflict with Iran.

While the Pentagon initially stated that five service members were seriously wounded and “several others” sustained minor injuries, sources have revealed the extent of the damage. More than 30 U.S. military personnel remain hospitalized as of Tuesday night, with patients receiving treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Walter Reed Medical Center in suburban Washington, D.C., and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.

Approximately 20 service members were evacuated to Landstuhl on Tuesday with “urgent” injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, memory loss, and concussions. Over 100 medical personnel have been deployed to the German facility to assist with the influx of patients. At least one service member required the amputation of a limb.

The grim aftermath of the strike was described as chaotic, with smoke filling the operations center and hindering rescue efforts. Two service members were initially reported missing, later found under the rubble.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged the incident, stating that while air defenses intercepted many incoming projectiles, “every once in a while, you might have one…that makes its way through.” He described the targeted operations center as “fortified,” but acknowledged the “powerful weapons” employed in the attack.

The Pentagon has a policy of notifying families of wounded soldiers directly, aiming to shield them from potentially alarming details released to the press. A serious injury is defined by the military as one “that requires medical attention, and competent medical authority declares that death is possible but not likely to occur within 72 hours.”

As of Tuesday, the 11th day of the conflict, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell reported approximately 140 American service members have been injured overall, with the “vast majority” of those injuries considered minor and 108 personnel already returning to duty. Eight remain listed as severely injured.

The attack in Kuwait was not an isolated incident. At least one American service member was killed in a separate strike in Saudi Arabia on the same day. The extent of injuries in that attack remains unclear.

Intelligence suggests Iran may have been surveilling the Shuaiba port facility prior to the strike. The incident raises questions about the effectiveness of current fortifications and the vulnerability of U.S. forces operating in the region.
