São Paulo, Brazil – A brazen car theft in São Paulo, Brazil, unfolded this week when a man stole a vehicle with a two-month-old baby boy inside, prompting a frantic chase and outpouring of public assistance. The incident, captured on CCTV footage, has ignited concern over rising crime rates and the vulnerability of families in urban areas.

The baby’s mother had briefly left her son in the car while picking up her older child from an after-school program. According to reports, the mother, identified as Maria Samara, routinely performs this task. However, on this occasion, a man entered the unlocked vehicle and drove away with the infant still inside.

“I do this every day,” Samara told G1, a Brazilian news outlet. “But today, unfortunately, there was someone who shouldn’t have been there at that moment. Before I even turned my back to the car, he got in, and took my son with him.”
