Israel Escalates Conflict with Strikes on Tehran, Citing Regime Change Goal
PARIS – Israel has entered a new phase in its conflict with Iran, directly targeting infrastructure in Tehran with the stated aim of limiting the current regime’s ability to govern, according to a spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in Paris. Hen Feder, in an interview with FRANCE 24 on Sunday, confirmed the attacks on oil depots were deliberate and part of a broader strategy.
“The infrastructure that is connected to the regime is being targeted in order to limit their ability to keep governing,” Feder stated, echoing previous Israeli calls for a change in leadership in Tehran.
The strikes come amid heightened regional tensions and follow repeated Israeli warnings regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Feder asserted that Israel possesses evidence indicating an “imminent threat” posed by Iran’s weapons development, justifying the offensive action. He did not elaborate on the nature of the evidence.
The legality of the attacks was questioned, but Feder defended Israel’s actions by citing the perceived security risk.
This escalation marks a significant shift in Israel’s approach to countering Iran’s influence, moving beyond previously reported strikes focused on military targets and proxies. The targeting of civilian infrastructure raises concerns about potential humanitarian impacts and further destabilization of the region.
The conflict’s potential ramifications are substantial, given Iran’s role as a major regional power and its complex network of alliances. The situation is being closely monitored by international observers, who fear a wider escalation.
