Middle East Oil Infrastructure Under Attack as US-Iran Tensions Escalate
Manama, Bahrain – A series of attacks targeting oil facilities across the Middle East have raised concerns about global energy supplies as the conflict between the US and Iran intensifies. The attacks, which began on February 28th, have impacted refineries in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
Bahrain’s Bapco Energies refinery, capable of processing 405,000 barrels per day, was struck by an Iranian missile on March 5th. In Kuwait, debris from attacks injured workers at the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery, which has a capacity of 346,000 barrels per day.
Saudi Arabia’s oil giant, Saudi Aramco, temporarily shut down its Ras Tanura refinery – processing 550,000 barrels per day – on March 2nd after debris from intercepted drones fell on the site. The facility was targeted again two days later, on March 4th.
The attacks come as Aramco CEO Amin Nasser warned of “catastrophic” consequences if the current crisis in energy supply continues. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/aramco-ceo-warns-of-catastrophic-consequences-if-oil-crisis-continues-133036827.html
