Dubai Airport Addresses Misinformation Amid Regional Tensions
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Dubai International Airport (DXB) has issued a warning to the public regarding digitally manipulated videos circulating on social media that falsely depict incidents at the airport. Authorities are urging people to rely on official updates and refrain from sharing unverified content, citing potential legal repercussions.
The airport’s statement comes as regional tensions have heightened following retaliatory attacks in the Gulf region, triggering a surge of unverified information online. Officials confirmed the circulating clips are “fabricated and digitally altered” and do not reflect the actual situation at DXB.
The UAE Public Prosecution has also reminded residents of their responsibility to verify information before sharing it, warning that spreading rumors or unverified news can harm individuals and the wider community. Such actions may also carry legal penalties under UAE regulations.
This isn’t the first instance of misinformation surfacing in the UAE recently. Government entities have previously addressed the circulation of old footage misrepresented as current events, including videos of past fires. The Dubai Media Office clarified earlier that such footage was inaccurate and misleading.
The airport authority emphasized the importance of depending on verified announcements issued through official channels for accurate updates. The spread of false information can create confusion, particularly concerning critical public infrastructure like a major international travel hub. Dubai International Airport is consistently ranked among the world’s busiest airports, serving millions of passengers annually.
