‘Untamed’ Season 2 Underway in Hawaii Following Netflix Success
HONOLULU – Filming is underway in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park for the second season of the Netflix crime drama “Untamed,” following a successful debut in 2025 that saw the series become a global hit. The renewal, announced just two weeks after the first season’s release in August 2025, signals Netflix’s confidence in the series’ potential, with the first season garnering 92.8 million views in the latter half of the year and reaching the #1 spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10.
The series, starring Eric Bana and originally pitched as a limited miniseries, centers on a federal agent navigating the complexities of a crime investigation within the backdrop of a national park. Season one was set in Yosemite National Park.
“We’re excited to explore the pristine landscapes and cultural identity of a very different national park, and find Turner in a new state of mind, outside the comfort of Yosemite,” said co-showrunners Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith.
Bana, who plays Agent Kyle Turner and also serves as an executive producer, expressed his enthusiasm for the continuation of the series. “I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of Untamed to life,” he stated.
The shift in location to Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, home to the active Kīlauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes, introduces new challenges for Turner, as he investigates a mysterious death amidst “local tensions and the volatile, living landscape,” according to the show’s description.
While a release date for the second season has not yet been announced by Netflix, filming began on February 6, 2026. The trailer is expected to be released approximately 15-20 days before the season’s premiere, mirroring the timeline of the first season. Currently, Netflix has confirmed the return of Eric Bana as Agent Kyle Turner, Shea Whigham as Ray Burkart, and Kelly Hu as Awapuhi. The fate of characters Paul Souter (Sam Neill) and Shane Maguire (Wilson Bethel), who died in season one, remains uncertain, though showrunners have hinted at the possibility of their reappearance through flashbacks or other narrative devices.
