Ukraine Marks Four Years of War as Kyiv Recaptures Territory
KYIV, Ukraine – As Ukraine marked the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion on Sunday, fighting continued across the country, with Russian strikes reported. However, Ukrainian forces have recently made gains, recapturing territory lost in the initial weeks of the conflict, according to reports.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties. Recent Russian attacks have killed 11 and injured 38 people across Ukraine, according to reporting from The Kyiv Independent. The attacks, launched in the early hours of Sunday, involved 50 missiles and 297 long-range drones, primarily targeting Kyiv and its surrounding suburbs.
The initial Russian offensive in 2022 focused on seizing control of Kyiv, a period now known as the Battle of Kyiv. While the current situation remains fluid, the recent territorial gains by Ukrainian forces represent a shift in momentum.
Beyond Ukraine, other significant global events unfolded this week. In Mexico, the army deployed thousands of troops to maintain order following the death of a notorious cartel leader, known as “El Mencho.” In the United Kingdom, former ambassador to Washington, Peter Mandelson, was arrested in connection with his ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein.
Meanwhile, a powerful storm caused widespread power outages in the northeastern United States. Researchers also published a study examining the use of misleading language, termed “weasel words,” and their potential to distort information. Preliminary research also suggests a possible link between daily meditation and a reduced risk of cancer spreading.
