Trump Vows to Prevent Iran Nuclear Weapon as Conflict Enters Fourth Week

WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump stated Monday that military objectives against Iran currently focus on dismantling the country’s missile capabilities and navy, while reaffirming his commitment to preventing Iran from ever acquiring a nuclear weapon. The conflict, stemming from recent U.S. strikes in Iran, is projected to continue for “four to five weeks, but we have capability to go far longer than that,” Trump said during a public appearance at the Medal of Honor ceremony.

Since Saturday’s initial attacks, Trump has warned Iran against any attempts to rebuild its nuclear program. “I said that from the beginning: they’re never going to have a nuclear weapon,” he stated.

The U.S. actions, according to Trump, are aimed at “eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.” He also claimed that ten Iranian ships have already been “knocked out” and are “at the bottom of the sea.”

Trump referenced past negotiations with Iran, stating, “We thought we had a deal, but then they backed out… You can’t deal with these people. You’ve got to do it the right way.”

Global Affairs Canada reports approximately 85,000 Canadians are currently in the Middle East, including 2,921 in Iran, 6,006 in Israel, and 438 registered in the Palestinian territories.

The recent escalation follows a period of heightened tensions, including the United States’ withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal. The deal aimed to limit Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
