The Veronicas revisit pop craftsmanship with Sombr cover for triple j’s ‘Like A Version’
Sydney, Australie – Australian pop duo The Veronicas have delivered a compelling cover of Sombr’s “12 to 12” for the latest installment of triple j’s renowned Like A Version series. The performance, recorded during the station’s expanded Like A Version month, showcases the sisters’ appreciation for strong songwriting and marks their debut appearance in the iconic studio.
Jess and Lisa Origliasso described Sombr as a “compelling songwriter,” explaining that “12 to 12” immediately resonated with them. They praised the track’s structure and melody, recognizing it as a prime example of well-crafted pop music. “Once we heard ‘12 to 12,’ it quickly became an obsession,” they noted.
The Veronicas also used the opportunity to perform their 2007 breakout hit, “Untouched,” from their album Hook Me Up. The song, a staple of Australian pop culture, has experienced a resurgence in popularity on social media and streaming platforms.
This Like A Version appearance is a significant moment for the Brisbane-raised artists, who have been a fixture in the Australian music scene for nearly two decades. The performance arrives as part of triple j’s expanded schedule for the month, featuring a diverse lineup of artists.
Earlier this week, Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile kicked off the expanded series with a rendition of The Stone Roses’ “I Wanna Be Adored,” a tribute to the band’s late bassist Mani. Upcoming performances include sets from Oklou, Baker Boy, Lucy Dacus, MAY-A, Kevin Abstract and Inkabee.
Like A Version has become a cornerstone of triple j’s programming, consistently offering unique reinterpretations of songs and introducing audiences to a wide range of musical styles.
