Trump Phone Shares Design with HTC Model, Raising Questions About Origins
WASHINGTON – The elusive “Trump phone,” launched last year by T1 Mobile, appears to share significant design elements with the HTC U24 Pro, a device released in 2024, according to a report by The Verge. The revelation raises questions about the origins of the T1 Phone’s design and manufacturing process, though HTC denies direct involvement.
For months, details surrounding the Trump phone – a venture linked to former U.S. President Donald Trump – have been scarce. Initial announcements promised a device embodying the Trump brand, but concrete information regarding its production and location remained unclear.
The similarities between the T1 Phone and the U24 Pro are striking, observers note. Both devices feature an angled body, a curved display, and a distinctive arrangement of front sensors. They also share less visible features, including a headphone jack and microSD card support – increasingly rare in modern smartphones.
“It’s a little hard to make out in this screenshot, but the Trump phone shares the sharply angled edges of the HTC U24 Pro,” The Verge noted in its report, accompanied by a side-by-side image comparison.
HTC’s global PR director, Sohaib Ahmed, confirmed that his company did not design or manufacture phones for third parties. However, the possibility remains that a third-party manufacturer may have been involved in the creation of both devices.
The HTC U24 Pro, released in 2024 for approximately $600, was seen by some as a potential revival for the Taiwanese smartphone maker, which once held a prominent position in the Android ecosystem before selling a significant portion of its smartphone division to Google in 2017 for $1.1 billion.
While the rear camera configurations differ, analysts suggest the underlying technology may be similar. Both phones also share specifications, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7-series chip and support for up to 1TB of storage via microSD card.
Trump Mobile has previously stated its phones undergo “final assembly” in Miami, but has not disclosed the location of its manufacturing partners. Repeated requests for comment from Trump Mobile regarding the connection to the HTC U24 Pro have gone unanswered.
The discovery underscores the complexities surrounding the Trump phone’s development and raises questions about the extent to which it represents a truly original product. The T1 Phone’s reliance on existing designs, if confirmed, may temper expectations regarding its performance and innovation.
