Africa’s Future Forged at Harare Summit, With Focus on Youth and Sustainable Development
Harare, Zimbabwe – Over 1,000 delegates from 54 countries converged in Harare this month for the 2026 Iconic Africa Summit & Honors, a five-day event dedicated to charting a course for sustainable development and regional integration across the continent. The summit, held February 11-15 at the Rainbow Towers and Convention Centre, brought together policymakers, civil society, private sector leaders, and youth representatives.
The gathering, convened by Iconic International Holdings, Pty Limited, centered on the theme The Africa We Want: Sustainable Development, Everyone’s Responsibility. Discussions spanned crucial areas including youth inclusion, leadership accountability, and the need for collaborative solutions to Africa’s socio-economic challenges.
A key element of the summit was a strategic partnership with Concord for Young Women in Business Global, spearheaded by Apphia Musavengana, which amplified the participation of women entrepreneurs and youth organizations. This focus on inclusivity underscored the event’s commitment to broad-based growth.
“Collaboration with continental institutions such as the African Union Youth Council and the International Forum for Peace and Diplomacy was designed to deepen engagement on governance, policy reform and development strategy,” said Temisan O. Louis, President and Founder of Iconic International Holdings.
The summit also unveiled the ICONIC 500 list, recognizing individuals and institutions for their contributions to governance, humanitarian service, youth development, and cultural preservation.
Among those honored were Zimbabwe’s First Lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa, named Iconic Woman of the Year for her work in humanitarian and social welfare initiatives. Prince Lindani of the Kingdom of Eswatini was recognized for his efforts in youth empowerment and cultural diplomacy, while former Malawian President Arthur Peter Mutharika received an award for his commitment to democratic governance – accepted on his behalf by Ben Malunga Phiri. Tino Machakaire, Zimbabwe’s former Youth Minister, was acknowledged for promoting youth-driven innovation, and the Babukisi Foundation was celebrated for its work in preserving African heritage through digital platforms.
The event drew high-level participation, including Zimbabwe’s Vice President Kembo Mohadi, signaling growing regional interest in platforms fostering cross-sector collaboration.
Participants expressed hope that the summit’s outcomes will translate into concrete policy changes, strengthened partnerships, and impactful youth-focused programs, particularly within the Southern African Development Community and beyond.
