openDemocracy Recruits Investigative Journalist to Cover UK Tech Sector
LONDON – openDemocracy has appointed investigative journalist Jade-Ruyu Yan as its new tech reporting fellow, a position created to increase scrutiny of the rapidly evolving technology sector in the United Kingdom and its societal impact. The fellowship is a collaboration with Tech Policy Press.
Yan will focus on the UK’s tech landscape, with a particular emphasis on corporate influence. This appointment comes at a time of increasing public concern regarding the power and reach of technology companies, and their effect on democratic processes and individual liberties.
The UK government has been increasingly focused on regulating the tech sector, with ongoing debates surrounding online safety, data privacy, and competition. This new fellowship aims to provide in-depth reporting on these critical issues, holding powerful actors accountable.
openDemocracy stated the fellowship will bolster coverage of the intersection between technology and society, an area of growing importance for public understanding. Yan’s work will contribute to a more informed public discourse on the challenges and opportunities presented by technological advancements.
