Israel Confirms Killing of Top Iranian Security Official, Escalating Tensions
JERUSALEM – Israel’s military announced Tuesday it killed Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Basij paramilitary force, in recent strikes. The announcement marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two nations.
Israel’s Foreign Minister stated that Iranians are “safer” without Larijani and Soleimani, a sentiment reflecting the Israeli government’s view of the officials’ roles in regional instability. Defense Minister Israel Katz has instructed the military to “continue hunting down” Iran’s leadership, signaling a continued aggressive posture.
As of Wednesday morning, Tehran has yet to officially respond to the claims.
The strikes come amid heightened global concern over the conflict. A top counter-terrorism official in the United States recently resigned, citing pressure from Israel as a key factor in escalating tensions with Iran under the previous administration.
This latest development adds to a volatile international landscape, with ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises demanding global attention. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected.
