Clintons Face Questions Over Ties to Epstein, Maxwell in Congressional Testimony
WASHINGTON – Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday, stating she had no knowledge of the criminal activities of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Her testimony is part of a broader congressional inquiry spurred by the release of documents related to Epstein following the passage of the Epstein Files Transparency Act in November 2025.
Clinton addressed the committee behind closed doors, later telling reporters she “had no idea” about Epstein and Maxwell’s crimes. She emphasized she never visited Epstein’s island, homes, or offices, stating this information is “on the record numerous times.”
The inquiry gained further attention when it was revealed Maxwell attended the 2010 wedding of Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of Hillary and Bill Clinton. Clinton clarified that Maxwell was a guest of another attendee, but did not disclose who that person was.
The depositions of both Clintons come after months of contention. The House Oversight Committee, led by Republicans, initially issued subpoenas in July, which the Clintons resisted, citing political motivations. An agreement was eventually reached for them to testify.
During her six-hour deposition, Clinton described an “unusual” turn when questioning shifted to unrelated conspiracy theories, including UFOs and the debunked “pizzagate” claim. A photograph taken during the closed-door proceeding was shared on social media by Representative Lauren Boebert, violating committee rules.
Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to testify on Friday, marking the first time a former president has been compelled to do so before Congress. He previously stated on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he would not allow himself to be used as a “prop” in a “kangaroo court.”
The scrutiny of the Clintons stems from their appearances in documents released related to Epstein, including heavily redacted photographs showing Bill Clinton with Epstein and Maxwell. While neither Clinton has been accused of wrongdoing, their connections to Epstein have drawn public and political attention. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in Epstein’s sex trafficking operation.
