Hemsworth to Return for ‘Extraction 3’ as Filming Set to Begin in Australia and Europe
SYDNEY, Australia – Chris Hemsworth is set to reprise his role as Tyler Rake in a third installment of the popular action thriller Extraction, with filming scheduled to begin in June 2026 in Australia and Europe, Netflix confirmed. The sequel, produced by AGBO, follows the success of the first two films which debuted in 2020 and 2023 respectively.
The renewal of the franchise was announced during the Netflix Tudum festival in 2023, sparking excitement among fans eager to see the continuation of Rake’s high-stakes missions. Production is expected to wrap by October 2026, with a potential release date slated for late 2026 or early 2027.
After a five-year search for the right location, Sydney, Australia, will serve as the primary filming location. Alongside Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani is expected to return as Nik Khan, Tyler Rake’s key partner, as are Adam Bessa as Yaz Khan, Olga Kurylenko, and Idris Elba. Elba’s character, known only as “The Mysterious Man,” was introduced at the end of the second film, hinting at a significant role in the upcoming sequel.
Hemsworth, an Australian native born in Melbourne in 1983, will be filming in his home country.
