Cable Car Plummets in Swiss Alps, Injuring One
Engelberg, Switzerland – A cable car fell from its cables Tuesday morning in the Engelberg ski resort in the canton of Nidwalden, Switzerland, authorities confirmed. Strong winds, reaching speeds of 130 kilometers per hour (81 mph) in the Swiss Alps, are believed to be the cause of the incident.
Images circulating online show the cable car rolling down a slope. According to Swiss media outlet Blick.ch, one person was seriously injured. Norbert Patt, director of Titlis-Bahnen, confirmed the incident to Swiss broadcaster SRF.
Swiss federal police have stated that no Italian citizens were involved in the accident, following inquiries from the Italian embassy in Bern.
The incident occurred near the village of Engelberg, a popular destination known for its stunning natural scenery and the Mount Titlis ski area, according to Switzerland Tourism.
