Israeli Producer Dana Eden, Co-Creator of ‘Tehran,’ Dies in Greece at 52
ATHENS, Greece – Dana Eden, the Israeli producer celebrated for co-creating the internationally acclaimed espionage thriller “Tehran,” has died unexpectedly in Athens, Greece, Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported Monday. She was 52.
Greek police confirmed Eden was found dead in her Athens hotel room. While an investigation is underway, authorities have indicated there is no initial evidence of foul play, according to a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity, citing protocol.
Eden was in Greece overseeing location scouting and early preparations for the fourth season of “Tehran,” which has garnered a global following for its gripping narrative and complex characters. The series, which premiered in Israel and on Apple TV+ in 2020, follows Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad operative infiltrating Iran. It won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series in 2021, bringing significant international recognition to Israeli television production.
“Dana was among the leading figures in Israel’s television industry and played a central role in the creation and leadership of some of the most prominent and influential productions within the corporation,” KAN stated. The broadcaster did not disclose a cause of death.
The news has prompted an outpouring of grief from within the Israeli entertainment industry and beyond. Israel’s Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar expressed his sadness on X (formerly Twitter), calling Eden “one of the most prominent and influential producers in the Israeli television industry.” He added that she “left a deep mark on Israeli creation and brought our story to international stages with pride, talent and courage.”

Eden’s production company, Donna and Shula Productions, released a statement addressing circulating rumors. “The production company wishes to clarify that the rumors of a criminal or nationally motivated death are false and unfounded,” the statement read, appealing for respect for Eden’s family and privacy.
Prior to her success with “Tehran,” Eden had a long and distinguished career in Israeli television, beginning in the 1990s. She worked on popular series such as the comedy “Yom Haem” and the crime drama “Magpie.” Her commitment to quality programming was also recognized with the 2018 Israeli Television Academy Award for Best TV Magazine for Children and Youth for “Saving the Wildlife.”
Eden’s death underscores the growing international impact of Israeli television. According to data from the Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute, exports of Israeli television formats and finished programs have increased by over 30% in the last five years, generating an estimated $250 million in revenue. “Tehran” is a prime example of this trend, demonstrating the ability of Israeli storytelling to resonate with audiences worldwide.
The loss of Dana Eden is a significant blow to the Israeli television industry and a reminder of the creative talent that continues to emerge from the region. Her work will undoubtedly continue to inspire and entertain audiences for years to come.
