Cuba Slowly Restores Power After Major Outage
HAVANA, Cuba (AP) – Electricity is gradually being restored in Havana, Cuba, following a widespread partial outage. As of Thursday, March 5, 2026, service has been re-established for 45,378 customers, representing 5.7% of the 787,000 clients in the capital city, according to data from the Unión Eléctrica (UNE).
The outage, triggered by a failure at a thermal power plant, has plunged large parts of the country into darkness in recent days. While full restoration timelines remain unclear, authorities are working to address the issue.
The slow pace of recovery highlights ongoing challenges within Cuba’s aging power infrastructure. This incident impacts over six million people, according to reports.
Further updates will be provided as they become available. El Mundo first reported these figures.
