Hillary Clinton Demands Trump Testify in Epstein Probe

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. (AP) — Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, during a contentious closed-door hearing Thursday with a Republican-led House committee investigating Jeffrey Epstein, turned the tables on her interrogators, calling for U.S. President Donald Trump to testify under oath about his own connections to the convicted sex offender.

Clinton told the committee she had no direct knowledge of Epstein’s crimes, stating she did not recall ever encountering him and had never visited his island or flown on his plane. She accused the panel of pursuing the investigation to “protect one public official” – a clear reference to Trump.

The hearing, part of a broader Republican investigation into those linked to Epstein, who died by suicide in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, was briefly paused when a photo of Clinton during the deposition was posted online, a breach of the closed-door arrangement.

“What is not acceptable is oversight Republicans breaking their own committee rules… by releasing photos,” said Democratic committee member Suhas Subramanyam.

Clinton challenged the committee to focus its inquiry on Trump, stating, “if this committee is serious about learning the truth about Epstein’s trafficking crimes…it would ask (Trump) directly under oath about the tens of thousands of times he shows up in the Epstein files.”

Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the committee, echoed Clinton’s call, urging Trump to testify “to answer the questions that are being asked across this country from survivors.”

The investigation comes after the release of a trove of documents related to Epstein, which have implicated numerous high-profile individuals. Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton’s husband, is scheduled to testify before the committee on Friday. He has previously acknowledged flying on Epstein’s plane in the early 2000s for Clinton Foundation-related work but maintains he never visited Epstein’s private island.

Democrats have criticized the investigation as a politically motivated attempt to damage the reputations of Trump’s opponents.

The release of the Epstein files has triggered repercussions internationally, including arrests in Britain of figures like Prince Andrew and Peter Mandelson.

Hillary Clinton and her husband initially resisted the subpoenas to testify, but ultimately agreed after facing the threat of being held in contempt of Congress.
