“One Battle After Another” Claims Best Picture at 98th Academy Awards

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” was named best picture at the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, marking the director’s first Oscar win. The ceremony also saw Jessie Buckley recognized as best actress and Michael B. Jordan as best actor.

Buckley took home the award for her performance in “Hamnet,” while Jordan was honored for his role in “Sinners.” The night’s accolades extended to “Frankenstein” and “Sentimental Value,” with Amy Madigan winning best supporting actress and “KPop Demon Hunters” claiming the prize for best animated feature film.

The awards represent a significant moment for Anderson, who, despite a celebrated career, had previously been overlooked by the Academy.

Beyond the glitz of Hollywood, the global news landscape continues to shift. Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has reportedly left the country, according to the BBC. Simultaneously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Hungary of attempting to compel Kyiv to reopen a Russian oil pipeline.

In international affairs, former U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated calls for increased international protection of shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz.

Elsewhere, a unique attempt at a Guinness World Record unfolded in Mexico, where thousands gathered for what organizers hoped would be the largest-ever football lesson. And, in a lighter note, reports surfaced regarding a revival of the Dull Men’s Club, a group dedicated to celebrating the understated and often overlooked aspects of life.
