Iran Intensifies Attacks on Gulf Allies Despite U.S., Israeli Countermeasures

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Iran continued a barrage of missile and drone attacks against its regional adversaries Friday, despite ongoing strikes from the United States and Israel targeting its launch capabilities. The escalating conflict raises concerns about the dwindling defensive resources of Gulf nations and the potential for wider regional instability.

Sirens wailed in Kuwait City as the Iranian Army announced the launch of “a large volume of Army attack drones” aimed at “U.S. positions” within the country, according to reports.

The United Arab Emirates bore the brunt of the assault, intercepting the vast majority of incoming projectiles but confirming impacts on its soil. The UAE Ministry of Defense reported detecting and intercepting nine ballistic missiles, alongside 112 drones – 109 of which were destroyed mid-air, while three landed within the country.

In total, the UAE stated it has tracked 205 ballistic missiles since the start of the Iranian attacks, destroying 190, with 13 falling into the sea and two impacting UAE territory. A staggering 1,184 Iranian drones have been detected, with 1,110 intercepted and 74 landing on UAE soil. Eight cruise missiles were also reportedly detected and destroyed.

The attacks have already claimed lives. Earlier this week, the UAE reported three deaths – Pakistani, Nepali, and Bangladeshi nationals – and at least 112 injuries, many minor, resulting from previous Iranian strikes. The Ministry of Defense affirmed its readiness to “respond to any threats, protect national security and sovereignty, and ensure the safety and stability of the country.”

The sustained offensive comes despite claims from Washington and Tel Aviv that Iran’s offensive capabilities are being degraded. However, regional officials have warned of a critical shortage of interceptors needed to defend against the relentless attacks. CBS News reported Thursday that America’s Persian Gulf allies are “running dangerously low on interceptors” to counter Iranian weaponry.

The continued attacks underscore the escalating tensions in the region and the challenges facing the U.S. and its allies in containing Iran’s influence. The situation is particularly concerning given recent reports of Iranian surveillance of facilities housing U.S. forces in Kuwait, as detailed in an Army memo, according to CBS News.
