Middle East Tensions Disrupt Hong Kong Postal Services to Two Dozen Countries
HONG KONG – A joint US-Israeli attack on Iran has triggered widespread disruptions to Hong Kong’s public airmail services, impacting deliveries to 24 countries across the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia. Hongkong Post announced the suspensions Sunday, citing flight cancellations to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as disruptions to transit routes.
Services to Saudi Arabia and the UAE have been suspended “with immediate effect until further notice,” a Hongkong Post spokesperson said. Airmail relying on connections through these two Gulf states is also affected.
Beyond the initial suspensions, the disruptions extend to eleven African nations: Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Angola, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Several Eurasian and Central Asian countries are also experiencing delays, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Speedpost services to Russia have also been impacted. Iran, Cuba, Ecuador, and Uruguay complete the list of affected destinations.
The disruptions come amid heightened regional instability following the recent military action. Cathay Pacific Airways also suspended all flights to and from the Middle East on Saturday in response to the same events, according to reports.
Hongkong Post did not specify the duration of the service interruptions, but indicated they would remain in effect until further notice. The situation is evolving, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
