Bali Authorities Crack Down on Explicit Content as Another Influencer Faces Charges
Denpasar, Bali – Bali’s authorities continue to assert a strict stance against the production and distribution of explicit content, arresting a 23-year-old French model and her associates last week. The case echoes a similar incident involving British adult performer Bonnie Blue late last year, raising questions about the island’s appeal to those seeking to create adult content and the Indonesian government’s commitment to upholding its laws.
Melisa Mireille Jeanine, who goes by “CallMeSlo” online, was apprehended alongside her manager, a 26-year-old French man, and a 24-year-old Italian man. The arrests occurred as Jeanine and the Italian national attempted to depart Bali for Thailand on Friday, according to police.
Authorities allege the trio filmed explicit content in the tourist area of Canggu, featuring Jeanine and the Italian man. The footage, which reportedly showed Jeanine in revealing clothing before engaging in sexual activity with a man dressed as a motorbike rider, was subsequently uploaded to her OnlyFans page.
“Based on our social media searches and the information we received, this woman is an adult video content creator. She distributed the content through her manager to the OnlyFans and X platforms,” stated Badung police chief Joseph Edward Purba. Police seized equipment including a camera, a MacBook, three phones, and a motorcycle vest reportedly purchased for approximately £13 to enhance the video’s viral potential.
The suspects now face up to 10 years in jail for producing pornography, with an additional six years possible for its distribution. Indonesia maintains stringent laws prohibiting explicit content, and officials have signaled a crackdown on tourists violating these regulations.
This latest arrest follows the case of Bonnie Blue, who was detained in December and accused of filming explicit content as part of a project dubbed “Bangbus.” While the pornography charges against Blue were ultimately dropped, she was deported and banned from Indonesia for 10 years for allegedly working on a tourist visa, a move authorities said was necessary to protect Bali’s image and cultural values. Blue is currently facing charges in the UK related to an incident outside the Indonesian embassy in London.
Immigration chief Gde Oki Rizky Aryadhika Heris confirmed Jeanine entered the country on February 21 using a tourist visa on arrival. He added that authorities quickly identified her as a person of interest once the video surfaced online.
The Indonesian government’s actions reflect a broader effort to control the narrative surrounding tourism on the island, which is a significant contributor to the national economy. The recent cases underscore the potential legal ramifications for individuals engaging in activities deemed inappropriate under Indonesian law.
