Estée Lauder in Talks for Merger with Puig, Parent of Jean Paul Gaultier
NEW YORK (AP) — The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. and Spanish beauty group Puig are in discussions regarding a potential merger, both companies confirmed Monday. The deal could bring together iconic brands like Estée Lauder, Clinique, and Tom Ford Beauty with Puig’s portfolio including Jean Paul Gaultier, Nina Ricci, and Paco Rabanne.
Puig initially informed Spain’s National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) of the talks, stating that no definitive decision has been reached and no agreement has been finalized. The company cautioned that there is no guarantee the operation will materialize or the terms of any eventual agreement.
The discussions come amid recent leadership changes at Puig. On March 17, José Manuel Albesa was appointed CEO, replacing Marc Puig, who remains executive chairman. Miquel Àngel Serra was also named chief financial officer, succeeding Joan Albiol, who will continue as a non-member secretary of the board.
The potential merger reflects a broader trend of consolidation within the global beauty industry as companies seek to gain scale and navigate evolving consumer preferences. The deal’s impact on the competitive landscape remains to be seen.
Further details are expected as negotiations progress.
