Moscow relies on digital independence and launches a national messenger service. The new platform is intended to reduce the dependency on WhatsApp and Telegram.

Russia has launched a national messenger service that is intended to reduce the dependence on foreign platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram. This announced Sergej Bojarski, Chairman of the Committee on Information Policy in the Russian Parliamenton Friday.

The new service is a decisive component in Russia’s strategy for digital sovereignty. “With the development of this multifunctional national service – a unique digital ecosystem – we close the last gap in our digital security architecture”Bojarski explained according to the Turkish news portal Anadolu Ajansi.

The project aims to replace foreign applications with a modern domestic alternative that enables more comprehensive control over communication data.

Digital transformation

Bojarski emphasized that existing services should not be urged from the market: “WhatsApp and Telegram can continue to be used as long as they completely respect our legal requirements. However, you will no longer benefit from a lack of competition.

The parliamentarian classified the initiative in a greater connection-it is part of a comprehensive digital transformation in Russia, which already includes e-government services, domestic social networks and online banking systems.

“Many other countries are only at the beginning of similar developments,” he added.
