Indian Design Institute Sees Strong Showing from Creative Edge Students
NEW DELHI – Seven students from Creative Edge by Toprankers, a leading Indian design preparation institute, have advanced to the mains round of the National Institute of Design (NID) Postgraduate entrance exam, the institute announced this week. The NID, widely considered one of India’s premier design schools, plays a crucial role in shaping the country’s creative landscape and contributing to its growing design economy.
The students – Vikash (Animation Film Design), Apurba (Animation Film Design), Mouly (Textile, Apparel & Lifestyle Accessory Design), Radhika (Universal Design), Ayush (Textile Design & Apparel Design), Anjali (Furniture & Interior Design), and Tamanna (New Media Design) – successfully navigated the highly competitive preliminary exam. This year’s results highlight the effectiveness of Creative Edge’s intensive preparation program, which focuses on building both technical skills and a conceptual understanding of design principles.
“This isn’t just about passing an exam; it’s about fostering a design mindset,” said a spokesperson for Creative Edge. “We emphasize critical thinking, visual storytelling, and problem-solving – skills essential for success in today’s rapidly evolving design industry.”
India’s design sector is experiencing significant growth, fueled by a rising middle class and increasing demand for innovative products and services. According to a 2023 report by the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the Indian design industry is projected to reach $38.2 billion by 2025. Institutions like NID are vital in providing the skilled workforce needed to support this expansion.
The NID entrance exam is known for its rigorous assessment of originality and creative aptitude. The preliminary round tests a candidate’s foundational understanding of design principles, while the mains round delves deeper into their portfolio and design thinking abilities.
Creative Edge’s preparation program includes studio-based learning, personalized mentorship, and intensive simulations of the exam environment. The institute’s approach goes beyond rote memorization, encouraging students to develop a strong portfolio narrative aligned with their chosen specialization.
“Our faculty provides continuous feedback and guidance, helping students refine their concepts and strengthen their design articulation,” the spokesperson added. “We aim to prepare students not just for the exam, but for a successful career in design.”
The seven students are now preparing for the mains round, with Creative Edge continuing to provide support and mentorship. The institute’s success rate underscores the growing demand for specialized design education in India and the importance of institutions that can equip students with the skills needed to thrive in this competitive field.
