Modi to Visit Israel, Strengthening Ties with Key Ally
Jerusalem – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Israel this Wednesday, a trip hailed by both nations as a testament to their deepening strategic partnership. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the visit as “historic,” emphasizing the growing alignment between India and Israel across innovation, security, and regional cooperation.
Netanyahu, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), called Modi a “dear friend” and highlighted the strength of the alliance. “We are partners in innovation, security, and a shared strategic vision,” he wrote. “Together, we are building an axis of nations committed to stability and progress.”
The upcoming visit follows a cordial exchange between the two leaders. Modi responded to Netanyahu’s message on X, stating he “deeply values the enduring friendship with Israel, built on trust, innovation and a shared commitment to peace and progress.” He added that he looks forward to their discussions.
During his visit, Modi is scheduled to address the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, and participate in an innovation event in Jerusalem. A visit to Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial, is also planned.
Netanyahu outlined a broader vision for regional cooperation, envisioning a “hexagon” of alliances encompassing India, Arab nations, African nations, Mediterranean countries like Greece and Cyprus, and other Asian nations. He framed this alliance as a counterweight to “radical axes” in the region, referencing both Shia and Sunni extremist groups.
Cooperation in emerging technologies will be a key focus of the discussions. Netanyahu specifically mentioned high-tech, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum computing, stating these fields are not just the future, but “the present.”
The strengthening relationship between India and Israel has grown significantly in recent years, with both countries prioritizing economic, diplomatic, and security cooperation. This visit underscores India’s commitment to diversifying its strategic partnerships and engaging with key players in the Middle East.
