Missiles Targeting Kuwaiti Air Base Intercepted, Raising Regional Tensions

KUWAIT CITY – Kuwait’s air defense systems successfully intercepted ballistic missiles targeting Ali Al Salem Air Base early Saturday, the country’s Ministry of Defense confirmed. Debris from the intercepted missiles fell around the base, but authorities reported no casualties.

The attack underscores escalating tensions in the region, with Iran’s state-run news agency, Fars, claiming responsibility for targeting Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Ali Al Salem in Kuwait, and Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, according to multiple reports.

Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, spokesperson for the Kuwait Ministry of Defense, stated that Kuwaiti forces “successfully confronted” the missiles, resulting in debris falling in the vicinity of the base. Authorities are urging citizens and residents to avoid approaching any potential missile fragments and to report them immediately.

“The Armed Forces continue to carry out their missions and duties in defending the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait and confronting any threat to the security and stability of the country,” a statement from the Kuwaiti General Staff read.

Ali Al Salem Air Base is a key military installation for Kuwait, supporting both Kuwaiti Air Force operations and coalition activities related to regional defense. Its strategic importance makes it a potential target during periods of heightened conflict.

The incident comes amid heightened global concern over Iran’s regional activities and its ballistic missile program. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense did not disclose the origin of the missiles or the specific defensive systems used in the interception, but confirmed its air defense capabilities are designed to protect critical infrastructure.

Kuwait has called on the public to rely on official sources for information and avoid spreading rumors. The country’s defense systems remain fully engaged in safeguarding national sovereignty.
